Who We Are
Freedom House Ministries, INC is a 501 c3 Christian-based non-profit organization that provides homeless shelter services in Green Bay exclusively to families with dependent children. This is done by providing a private room and bath per family, 3 meals a day, household items, clothing, hygiene supplies, employment and housing attainment coaching. Our mission is to equip families with the skills and resources needed to create a pathway to self-sufficiency. Through the generosity of donor support for staff and products, we can engage with residents transparently and kindly to foster connection, relationships and success for the future of families in our community.
Our Mission
The mission of Freedom House is to equip families with the skills and resources needed to become self-sufficient and maintain self-sufficiency. Freedom House serves a diverse population of homeless families with children through our emergency shelter on the east side of Green Bay, and our campus on the west side of Green Bay called The Bridge. Freedom House families are also offered our Aftercare Program for general support and access to the many donations Freedom House receives. This takes some stress off their monthly budget and prevents a second shelter stay.
Matthew 25:35 continues to be the foundation for our work.
…For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me.
– Matthew 25:35
Our Story
Freedom House was founded in 1992 by a small group of concerned Christians. Our organization began as a four-bedroom house on N. Irwin Avenue in Green Bay and served four families simultaneously. In 2003, Freedom House acquired and moved to its current shelter location at 2997 St. Anthony Drive in the Schmitt Park neighborhood of Green Bay. Up to 12 families or 50 people resided at the east side location at any time. In 2014, Freedom House expanded its reach to the far west side of Green Bay, where its campus, called The Bridge, is located at 840-842 N. Taylor Street. Nine families reside in the subsidized apartments at The Bridge. In 2020 Freedom House completed construction and moved into our new 16-room shelter at the St. Anthony Drive location, replacing the previous building.
