Serve kindness through a meal
Explore how your meal team can make a difference at Freedom House. Serving a dinner or lunch can show families that you care for them and their future.

Meal Teams
Enjoying meals together is an integral piece to family bonding and growing together. Come be a part of our Freedom House family by serving a meal to the House. We look to community members to help serve lunch (11:30 am –12:30 pm) and dinner 5:00-6:00 pm Monday-Thursday.
The kitchen can comfortably have up to six volunteers, however other meal team volunteers are welcome to greet and join the residents. You are welcome to cook a meal prior to serving off-site or utilizing our fully equipped kitchen. You are welcome to drop off prepared meals as well if you don’t have the time to come to Freedom House and serve.

If you have any questions please email Jenna Robbins at jennar@freedomhousegb.org.
Meal Preparation: Meals must can be cooked outside of the shelter or you can utilize our kitchen to prepare your meal. Food should be brought in containers that you can take back home with you or are disposable.
Please let us know your menu by including that information in your Meal Train sign-up. It’s nice to know to track our menus and its nice to let other meal teams what you plan to serve. Families also enjoy seeing the menu that will be served.
Quantities: The numbers of residents is consistently around 60 individuals (25 adults and 35 children).
Serving the Meal: The schedule times for dinner is 5:00-6:00 pm each night. Please plan on arriving with your food at approximately 4:30 pm or earlier to get setup and prepared. The suggested group size for meal teams serving is six volunteers to comfortably fit in the kitchen.
We ask that Meal Team members wear disposable gloves while serving and/or touching food.
Milk or juice: We ask that each meal team brings 2-3 gallons of milk or juice with your meal.
Desserts: There is no requirement to provide dessert as part of the meal, though residents do enjoy dessert! Often there are sweet donations on hand for families to eat. If you do want to provide dessert, you may consider treats that are lower in refined sugar, such as fruit-based desserts or perhaps even jello. Some residents may have health concerns or dietary restrictions.
Lunch: In addition to serving dinner we can make accommodations for meal teams to serve lunch. The same information regarding cooking at the shelter applies to lunch as well. Food must be brought ready to serve or you can utilize our kitchen. Lunch is served to guests daily between 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Thank you for sharing your love of cooking with families through the meals that you create.
